VETDSS TAFE Awards 2022: Geraldton Students Recognized for Vocational Education Efforts

Geraldton students who participated in the 2022 Vocational Education and Training program for secondary school students were celebrated at an awards ceremony last week.

Lilly Cooper of Geraldton Senior High School received the Midwest & Gascoyne VETDSS Student of the Year 2022 award for her work with PAiS Electrotechnology.

Sophie Aylmore of Nagle Catholic College won the Vocational Student Award for Certificate II in Tourism.

Braydon Kietzmann of Geraldton Christian College won the PAiS Automotive “Business-Based Business Student Award”.

Shekana Gilewski-Laresen became the second Geraldton High School student to win on the night, receiving the Professional Studies Certificate II award for community service.

Rachma Nurhaliza was crowned student of the year in higher professional studies for a certificate IV of preparation for health and nursing studies.

Lilly Cooper said she was delighted to win the 2022 TAFE Student of the Year award.

“I was dedicated and worked hard to succeed in this course. To be rewarded at the end like this for all my efforts really means a lot to me,” she said.

Alison Nobles, Central Regional Coordinator of VETDSS TAFE, said the scheme, which has around 200 students from the Geraldton School, has given them the opportunity to study qualifications in different areas of industry.

“Doing a VETDSS qualification adds value to your portfolio after school. VETDSS qualifications can be used to find a job, further education and enter university. Not just to get you through school,” said said Mrs. Nobles.
