Eligible Fijians can take a free short course at the Fiji National University (FNU) as part of the government’s Retraining and Upskilling initiative.
As announced in the 2021 National Budget, the government has allocated $1 million to the National University to assist those who have lost their jobs due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This will help eligible Fijians to re-employ and/or start businesses.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson said the institution launched the first series of short courses earlier this month to upskill and retrain Fijians in various fields such as business and marketing, e-commerce, tourism, science and technology.
“Applications are now open for the second round of free short courses and I encourage all eligible Fijians to apply now and diversify or enrich their knowledge and expertise,” said Professor Wilkinson.
“Given the current global economic situation and labor market adjustments, it is essential that FNU continuously assesses our learning and teaching and provides Fijians with education for employability.
“Each of the courses has been designed in partnership with industry to meet changing labor market needs. These courses will help meet the demands of the post-pandemic economy.
“At FNU, we strive to continue to develop new courses and teaching methods that enable individuals and businesses to become adaptable, resilient and sustainable. By studying with us, you will develop the skills you need to survive and thrive in a changing world.
To qualify for the free refresher and upskilling placement at FNU, prospective students will be required to submit a statutory declaration of unemployability due to COVID-19, a valid photo ID, TIN details as well as their birth certificate.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by Friday, February 11, 2022.
