About this opportunity

The University of Queensland (UQ) Strategic Plan, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy and Reconciliation Action Plan prioritizes increasing the number and representation of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders among the university’s staff and students. Accordingly, the Faculty of Science is recruiting for an identified position and therefore this opportunity is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This position will be responsible for identifying research funding opportunities, working closely with researchers in the preparation of high-quality written applications for grants and fellowships, and providing advice and training in scholarships. You will help capitalize on competitive research grant opportunities.

The primary focus of this position will be to establish and maintain effective and productive interactions with some of the School’s key industry partners, including but not limited to MLA, GRDC, ACIAR, as they seek to engage with the University.

The position is based at UQ St Lucia. Regular travel to UQ Gatton or other remote sites will be required.

About the School of Agricultural and Food Sciences (SAFS)

We are renowned for excellence in our research and teaching in the interrelated disciplines of agriculture, agribusiness, food science and technology, plant and soil science, and animal and wildlife science .

About you

  • Undergraduate degrees and extensive experience in research development and/or contract management (preferably in higher education or research sectors); or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated skills in administration and management of research contracts OR research development
  • Knowledge of relevant industry, philanthropic and competitive Australian grant schemes, with specific experience in writing and editing successful grant applications for agriculture and food science disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks for team and individual responsibilities
    Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Evidence of rapid assimilation of new information and deployment of this knowledge for the benefit of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with industry partners to ensure effective progression of research contracts and advancement issues
  • High level interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and proactively liaise between related functional areas of the University
  • Ability to work effectively independently

What we can offer

This is a full-time, fixed-term, two-year position at HEW Level 7.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be between $90,538 and $98,719 plus a top-up of up to 17%. The total ETP package will be between $105,929 and $115,501 per year.
