PHACODA begins training 2.5 million Nigerians

Following rising unemployment in the country, a group promoting human aid and community development in Africa (PHACODA) concluded plans to empower young people in the 36 states of the federation with vocational training.

Starting with 25 out of 44 available courses, PHACODA, a Nigerian registered non-governmental organization (NGO) has revealed that its empowerment initiative has been developed to accommodate a minimum of 2.5 million participants to engage in strategic training to help them achieve their goal. Goals.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the launch of the program in Abuja, its director, Mr. Chidiomimi Angels, further disclosed that they have developed a data system which will act as an umbrella for all in the age bracket of 15 to 35. years in all 36 states of the country.

Emphasizing the benefits of the initiative, Angels pointed out that the program will not only help restore and preserve the dignity of beneficiaries, but will also help reduce poverty.

Giving a statistical analysis of Nigeria’s youthful population, Chidiomimi added that the number of people within the labor force who were unemployed or underemployed fell from 13.6 million and 17.7 million respectively in the second quarter of 2017 to 15.9 million and 18 million respectively in the third quarter. of 2017.

“In our 12 years of experience, we have strived to build a workplace based on the values ​​of inclusion, partnership and continuous growth. Our organization is committed to contributing to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria by creating a sustainable lifestyle of learning skills/trades for all young people.

“The population of young people (15-35 years old) in the country was estimated at 64.1 million, with women constituting 51.6%, while that of young people (18-35 years old) was 52.2 million, women constituting 52.8%, 69% of the total youth are in rural areas while 31% are located in urban areas.

“The goal of the program is to educate and sensitize young people on the importance of acquiring skills which, in turn, will give them job security and also empower them,” Angels said.

According to him the 25 courses available are; Photography, Graphic design, Styling, Hairdressing, Nail tech, Make-up, shoemaking, Carpentry/cabinetmaking, Culinary, Bakery and Pastry, Video production, Auto mechanic, Sound engineering, Music production, Barber, Computer engineering, Skin care, Telephone engineering , Welding/Fabrication, Electrical Engineering, Paint Production, Architectural Design, Interior Design and Costume Design, Special Effects. He added that participants will undergo an intensive one-year theoretical training period at diploma level, practical training and business experience.
