Hundreds Participate in Kisumu Inter-Centre Vocational Training Centers Ball Games Tournament

KISUMU, Kenya, 14 June – Kisumu has launched Vocational Training Center (VTC) Ball Games in a bid to strengthen training institutions and make the education sector more attractive to young people in the county.

The Governor, Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Peter Munya, on Tuesday presided over the inaugural tournament organized for the young people of the 26 VTC of Kisumu.

Speaking at Moi Stadium, Munya praised the Nyong’o administration for promoting talents among the youth, saying that sports activities play a vital role in building culture, developing talents and creating opportunities. job opportunities.

“Governor Nyong’o is at the forefront of nurturing talent by creating an avenue for young people to advance their careers in sport,” said CS Munya.

Professor Nyong’o said introducing games as extracurricular activities in VTCs would enhance the healthy development of technical graduates.

“We encourage young people to make the most of their talents as sport has proven to be a lucrative industry providing employment opportunities for many people,” the county boss added.

The county CECM in charge of education, Mr John Awiti, said the department organizes the annual sporting event to promote skills and harness talent among the 4,878 trainees enrolled in various VTCs in the region.

“We have also invited scouting teams to identify and select talented players with the greatest potential to excel in various sports to be placed in the country’s top domestic league,” Awiti revealed.

The tournament is scheduled to take place over three days with matches held at the Rotary Skills Training Center and Moi Stadium and will culminate with the awarding of winners on Thursday.

Featured disciplines include football, handball, netball, volleyball and tug of war for both men’s and women’s teams.

The ride will also see talented trainees chosen to join the famous Lakeside County-sponsored Kisumu All Stars FC.
