Army talks research and development to improve operational efficiency

1 The Nigerian The Army reiterated its commitment to research and development to effectively address the contemporary security challenges facing the nation.

2 Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, Chief of Training (Army), reiterated this on Monday in Abuja during the opening of the 2022 Training and Doctrine Command Research and Development Conference (TRADOC).

3 The conference focuses on harmonizing the Nigerian Army Schools Curriculum.

4 Ibrahim, represented by Major-General. Oluyemi Olatoye, deputy chief of training, said the army has leveraged research and development to improve its operational efficiency.

5 He said the conference would fill gaps in the Nigerian military’s research and development as well as its programme.

6 “Therefore, I hope that by the end of this workshop and conference, the objectives will have been achieved for the good of the Nigerian Army.

According to him, opportunities like these should lead to well-articulated suggestions for filling program gaps.

8 “I’m really glad that TRADOC The Nigerian Army has ventured into constructive engagements with relevant stakeholders to build the capacity of our personnel, particularly in training, research and development, and program harmonization.

9 “I also hope that the constructive engagements here will lead to concrete recommendations that will appropriately prepare and position the Nigerian military to address contemporary issues,” he said.

ten Ibrahim praised TRADOC for working in line with the vision of Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, to have a “professional Nigerian military ready to accomplish assigned missions in a joint environment for the defense of Nigeria.

Earlier, Maj. Gen. Steven Olabanji, Commander of TRADOC, said the Nigerian military has continued to evolve in the context of the contemporary security challenges facing the nation.

12 The Commander, represented by the Chief of Training, TRADOC, Maj. Gen. JAL Jimoh, said the changing dynamics have manifested themselves in the areas of tactics, techniques and procedures, as well as personnel, equipment and materials.

13 According to him, to face the challenges, there should be coherent research and development in the field of training and doctrine.

14 “Research and development activities recreate or help evolve existing operating techniques and logistics procedures, modification of equipment, training programs, methodologies and techniques, etc.

15 “Our distinguished resource persons are well entrenched in managing their various aspects of the program and I urge all participants to show keen interest and take full advantage of these opportunities.

16 “As the anchor of training in the Nigerian Army, I strongly believe that you will broaden your knowledge to enhance that of Nigerian Army personnel through your various schools,” he said.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the two-day program was attended by senior officers from various army schools and training institutions.
