QUETTA- Pak-China Gwadar Technical and Vocational Institute, after its completion, started short courses to provide vocational training for students.
The first-ever modern vocational and technical training institute in the port city of Gwadar would accommodate 256 trainees at a time and provide training opportunities for at least 1,000 people every year, an official source said.
The Institute was completed in September 2021 ahead of its scheduled completion date.
The official informed that China has agreed to provide training to the institute and that a draft agreement has already been prepared in this regard and will be signed soon.
The institute would also create employment opportunities for local people, he added. As part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the project was launched in the port city to provide standard vocational training to Baluchistan residents in modern technological field, he added.
The official said that students belonging to Gwadar district would be enrolled free of charge to learn modern vocational skills in the institution.
Students after completing their course work would be sent to China to visit various industries to learn about modern technologies and industrial advancements. The province would seize huge economic and employment opportunities after the operational phase of CPEC and it was imperative to provide quality education to the local masses to benefit from the game-changing project, he added.
According to official sources, the project was being built under CPEC at a total cost of $10 million. “The project will build the skills of the local population of Gwadar to participate in the growth of the port city and bring investment, business and tourism to the region,” he added.
The Institute would help meet the skilled maritime labor needs of Gwadar Port after the development of industrial projects including Gwadar Port Free Zone, Export Processing Zone and other industrial and port projects .
The institute comprises a main building, consisting of two blocks, an administrative block, four workshops, a cafeteria, hostels, parking areas, an examination block and teachers’ accommodation, he said.
